First Blaster Ride!

Well this past weekend in Ventnor I rode my first Blaster. I had a hell of a time getting up on the damn thing, but once I got going the thing was a blast. :woot: It sure reminds me of riding a motorcycle. What is so weird is that when I used to ride motorcycles, I could make left turns much easier than I could turn right. For some reason I have a hard time knowing that a motorcycle will 'stick' to the turn going right but I no problem knowing that I can turn left and drag a knee. Weird huh? Well once again, same thing with the blaster. I got bored on it fairly quickly because we were only riding in the bay. Back to the SJ for the rest of the day. :cheer: I could see how fun the B1 would be in the surf though.

Does anyone else have a hard time turning one way vs. the other?

Same as slut, I could turn left better on a stand up than right earlier on. no diff on the blaster. Sounds like you need to learn to side mount. after you learn that getting up is a snap even for heavier people.

So...what are you saying????:sneaky:
I'll speak for myself. I was able to get up very quickly at my fattest weight ever at 240lbs while side mounting. It's a lot easier now that i've lost a lot of that flab.

Just plain me....

:261:Was that in your previous life?

I've watched Tim side mount in the Daytona surf .....he's got it down to a effortless science:hail:

And if you can side mount from the other side it's a trick!

Power help too!
I've thought about side mounting from the other side but I don't think it's worth it. If the motor is stalled you could put water into the motor from the head pipe and even if it's running you run the chance of putting water in the carb. I mount from the left only for now.

I agree side mount from the left. It can be done from the right but the risk of getting water in the cylinders/crankcases is not worth it imo. Personally I prefer the rear mount as I don't use a lanyard there is no need to reattach it.

I will steal one of Ollies favorite phrases here.

When ever I see someone rear mounting (especially in surf) all I can think is "monkey phuq coconut"

It's like trying to climb on an SJ from the front. sure, it can be done but why?

If I'm in the breakers there is no way I can climb up the back in time.

OK...I have side mounted from the right side many times...if I'm on the right side I mount on the right...if I'm on the left I mount from the left...keep in mine though that the ski is always running...I bump the idle in surf and don't want it to shut off...I never ride alone so their is always someone to get my ski or get me to my ski.

It doesn't work on the left side if the ski isn't running. Also, for a start/stop switch I run the old kawi switch mounted upside down...so the the green button is right at your thumb when cranking from the left and you hand is on the grip. Having to reach way over to find that little green button on the stock unit SUCKS.

I'll take a photo of it tomorrow for you...it doesn't have a lanyard either...and they last for ever. I have been through a couple on stock start/stop switches
and wouldn't take a brand new free one over the kawi switch...:thewave:

*shrug* I can sideboard just fine, but prefer rear boarding probably 60% of the time. It kind of depends on how I end up off the ski. If I'm on the right, I rear board.

Most of it has to do with preparing for oncoming waves. If your about to get wrecked by a wave....holding on to the side of the ski almost guarantees a boat that's going to get ripped out of your hands and turned over. Hanging on to the back handles while getting beat down means you can keep the nose up, and the ski right side up.
