Other Final coat of resin?

Just got my footholds and tray repair all glassed and foamed in.
Is it typical to roll out a finish coat of just resin to level it out to more of a glassy finish? (It is all areas that will be covered by turf.)

Get some cabosil or other filler and add it to your resin to form a peanut butter consistency. Then use that like you'd use bondo. Then sand it smooth and paint and you'd done.

Why do you add filler to it? The resin seems to self level pretty nicely, if it is going to be under the turf anyway is there an advantage to doing it like that?

dont you dare waste resin like that! if you make it too rigid it will crack. i glassed my whole tray and turfed over it with no prep. if theres high spots sand em down a bit. turf hides alot.

Obviously none of us can see your foothold job or the spot in particular you are talking about. There would be no reason to 'paint' on more resin. That won't get you anywhere.

I assumed you have some low or stepped spots that you might need a smoother transition into such as the edge of the foothold. Turf will hide a lot and if it's minor, no need. I like smooth transitions, so I'd be inclined to fair the sharp edges out so the turf has an easier transition, not an 1/8" lip to step up.

I'm just talking about smoothing the textured surface of the cloth itself. It's just a little pebbly compared to gelcoat or whatever they finish the tray with at the factory.

Sorry guess I misunderstood. As stated, just sand any rough/sharp edges and turf it.

the glue LOVES the texture. its much harder to stick to a smooth surface.

Good point. As much as I hate stripping turf maybe smoother is better for removal purposes. I have never had any problem with the weldwood not adhering.
