Freestyle filxing a big crack

I broke my handlepole mount and hull where pole bolts to the other day and now need to repair it. ITs a pretty big crack would it be best to fill it first with epoxy and cabosil and then start laying biax cloth or just go with resin and cloth? I figured the cabosil would fill the entire crack and make it stronger maybe? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cabosil doesnt add strength. Really the only filler that adds significant strength is milled fibers. Its chopped up glass mat.

You want to drill the ends of the cracks so they dont spread anymore. All of them. Then fill it with your choice of filled resin. Then stagger the layers over the top and bottom, at least 3, preferably 5. either 12 or 17 oz biaxial cloth for the main reinforcement, and you can do a layer of 4 oz over the top to make it look good if you like.

Thats my advice from pming multiple members on this site, and my own experience repairing skis so far.

Ok so cabosil is just a thickener then? So drill all the way thru the hull where the cracks are and then fill in with chop mat and finish with mulitiple layers of biax .I am going to try to reinforce the entire front end of the ski and then sand and spray bomb. I have heard of people adding in a metal bracket and glassing over it, when you do that how thick of a piece of metal would you put in there?

You add the milled fibers to the resin, you can add a little cabosil also if its not thick enough. Smear it in the crack, level it, then glass over it while its still wet. Ideally, you would do both the outside, and inside, at the same time, so they cure as 1 solid piece. Sometimes thats not possible. Yes drill all the way through the cracks To reinforce the nose, we glass over the front, pour some 2 part foam, let it foam prob 4-6 inches up the hull, sand it flat, and then glass over that tied into the side reinforcement

This should be a given, but you need to remove any and ALL damaged material before you start working.

Some people feather the area out 2 inches on the sides of the crack and build it up, some dont, preference thing, but I think it would make it a tad stronger doing it that way

should I grind out the crack any to make it more uniform? I have everything sanded down this is my last step before mixing up resin and glassing this over.
