Fiberglass question

Hello everyone

I am currently in the process of totaly stripping a 93 superjet and re paining it.

There is some gouges in the hull and also a chunk the size of a quarter broke out of the rub rail fiberglass.

Im also wanted to fill in a extra water pissed hole.

Question

What do I use to fill the holes and marks? Were can I buy it?

Thanks
DAN

I only need a little.

I didnt know if there is something in like a cauk tube I can buy a boat store or something.

What about buying a tube of epoxy??

they sell several types of figerglass "repair and fill" products in tubes at the hardware store. I've never used any of these though so I don't know if they're worth it or not.
You can hit a store like West Marine though and pick up small containers of resin and hardner along with small amounts of cloth.
The stuff in a tube sounds like it'd be easy to deal with, but don't know what the results would be.

i wonder if you could use a body putty like they have for car body work? Its like a clay i guess, and you put it over, smooth, and then its sandable and everything once it dries

Noooo..absorbs water. If you're talking about Bondo. You need to stick with the proper products meant for marine use.

You can get real small quantities of marine grade bondo at your local marina /boat shop etc .

I've used it in the past for above the waterline but only used epoxy for below the water line

I used Marine Tex a time or two. I recommend their liguid stuff but not the putty. It didn't stick to the hull at all. Then again I probably prepped and mixed it wrong...

I'm interested in this thread cause the retards at kawi drilled the holes for the hood latch in the wrong spot on my sx-r. The correct placement is about 2mm away from where they are now, which is a problem since it is about a 4mm hole. (if i just drilled new holes without patching the old ones there would be a shape of an "8" or snowman). It is still under warranty so I'm going to try and have the dealer do something about it, but if that fails I'll be doing this myself.

Will it work if I am drilling into 1/2 hood fiberglass and 1/2 of this patching stuff? The bottom half of that "8" is obviously going to support a lot of force down on the hood from the latch.
