I agree ripping parts isn't cool at all. But people will still buy parts that are rips. There are some X2 parts out there or will be out there that will be rips. Sure you can buy the same thing from Japan from several different companies. You think that the Japanese are ripping each other? I bet they are. Everyone always says that Bun is notorious for this.

Tom, don't worry about me, I am way too lazy and cheap to be pulling molds off of your parts. I am all for you guys coming out with your own conversion hoods! A conversion hood is the only reason I will consider getting an SJ at the moment. Sure i would love to have another stand up but for the going rate and that an SJ "holds its value" is pure BS with me. There is no reason they should cost an arm and a leg used. I got two practically unused X2's for less than half of what a beat up SJ R Nwould cost me. Might I add a beat up RN SJ that has been the same exact ski from 96 to 2007 too!

let me put a positive spin on this. Tom and I are as broke of people as you can be and still ride stand ups. we're making parts that that people like us could afford.

it would be dumb (financially) for someone to under cut us, but we're not doing it for free either.

not correct, that doesn't even cover the application fee for a small part by a small company. that is the initial review fee though. it's also not easy to meet the criteria to be granted a patent for a jetski part (so I was told by Chris Maros, he was denied).

Let me see, you were told by someone.....and I've done it

Who are you talking to? Have you heard of provisional patents? Pres Clinton enacted it in 82, You need to read, some books I might suggest are; Inventors Bible, Patent Pending in 24 hrs., (or so I was told, by me)

Some lawyers got you all messed up dude :cool2:

It's meant as a deterant, if you see a patent pending on a product, splash it (i love saying that), but just keep looking over your shoulder.

Wouldn't that be President Reagan in '82? Clinton took office in '93.

thanx, I was gonna look it up, but too lazy...... Knew it was Clinton, for some reason, those years were a blur.(Art School Daze)

Provisional Application for a Patent

Since June 8, 1995, the USPTO has offered inventors the option of filing a provisional application for patent which was designed to provide a lower cost first patent filing in the United States and to give U.S. applicants parity with foreign applicants. Claims and oath or declaration are NOT required for a provisional application. Provisional application provides the means to establish an early effective filing date in a patent application and permits the term “Patent Pending” to be applied in connection with the invention. Provisional applications may not be filed for design inventions.

yeah, I've got 2. The cost for the first year is all of $100.

:popworm:I don't wonder why tubbies say patent pending, it's because every year they just file for another provisional. Trust me, it makes companies think twice, Their rep. is on the line.

Not in this business it doesn't, I know for a fact some big name companies who have directly ripped parts and changed them a small amount. It really took the wind out of my sail when I saw that. I guess that is what it takes to get ahead!?

thanks for the info.

splash,( i love saying that) then watch the legal backwash. If they have a lot invested in a part, they will patent/and prosecute. In the real world, if it's not patented, it's fair game.

Fortuantly for us, this is not the real world. This is the internet.
