What happens if a FCV fails in the open position?
It feels like my exhaust is flooded and will not allow motor to rev up.
Could this be a bad fcv or is it something else.
Revs up fine out of the water.
I can pull the guts out of mine and run it straight through with no restriction and all it does is kill a bit of bottom and run quieter.
That being said, do you have a bypass and pisser T'd off the stinger line before the FCV? You could get more water flow than I do depending on how your water lines are run.
Better to fail open than to fail close. Like you are saying, it will dump a ton of water in the waterbox and bog if you are riding around at low rev’s and then pin the throttle open. If you ride full speed a lot you probably won’t notice a huge difference. The exhaust pressure at high revs will be pushing out most of the water that’s in your waterbox that low rev’s won’t be able to push out.
I like to strap the ski on the trailer and unhook the line after the FCV and see how much water is coming out at different revs levels.

I have a pisser T'ed off before the fcv.
I blew out my dual cooling fitting and overheated the pipe, melted the cooling line.
Took out the fcv and tried to run it and motor wouldn't rev up.
Going to put it back in and try again.
Motor compression still fine.
It is really intermittent
if I stop and sir a couple minutes
it will start and not Rev up until I blow out the waterbox.
then it runs fine.
fcv is almost 10 years old, maybe spring going bad?
I don't think it is the FCV. When i was trying to shut my front exhaust up I added 2 additional fittings to the waterbox and pipe all outgoing water in....It never made the ski not rev up.
