How often do you guys change your bendix? I think mine is on its way out, on a failed BF attempt I think it poped out our locked, I thought it was starter at first but seems to be the bendix. I bet high compression does not help out..?

Who had luck with cheap ebay bendixes?

Yep, A/M complete junk. I got lucky, that outer "bell" part at the base came loose and the bendix wouldn't engage sometimes. I caught it before it grenaded completely.

I usually sell em for 50 bucks. Used out of couches. I clean em and slap some grease on em and put em back in the ski. OEM is the best. A 15 year old one out of a couch has probably seen less starts than one in one of my skis.

If your front cover section is sealed correctly, you shouldn't have water in there to wipe out the bendix. I use 1211 on the starter o-ring where it slides into the front cover. I also use 1211 on the front cover gasket.

I bought a new OEM one a couple years ago. I think this is the third season on it. Never had water behind the flywheel cover, yet it started free-wheeling one season in. It didn't really get any worse, but it's still disappointing. I guess I'll stick to USED OEM instead and have a couple spares.

Apparently you have never been around couch riders, the starters on couches get used - abused way more than on our skis

Up here the season is too short for them to ride em. They get more wear on the pumps from improper salt water maintenance than anything. Most of the skis I buy to part out have bad pumps. Motor and engine bay usually look like new.

Ok that makes more sense, the riding season here goes from March through October, freshwater, I see guys starting skis and moving them two feet all the time, lots of starter and starter clutch replacements.
