F/S Engine build questions

as many of you know I have not been riding in a few years much and my skis have always been Kawi's

my plan over the next month or 2 is to work on building a 701 motor for what ever project SJ I find be it square or round nose , and with out going out and blowing my load on a already done up motor
what specific parts would be the best to go with .. using the bang vs buck theory???

I know there are a ton of good products out there :hail: but I do not know enough about them to make the informed decision i would like so its back on you all.. :hail: ( other than the B pipe that is a give in !! )

It sounds like you don't want to get too crazy, I would go with ADA head 35cc domes, B limited pipe, carbontech reeds, MSD enhanser, stock dual 44
mikunis or single 48 riva powerbomb, and of course Kenney Keepers.

Personally,

If youre staying 701 id go with,

Mild cylinder porting especially cleaning of the horrid misaligned transfer ports,
Billet head, approx 180psi,
Factory B pipe Mod,
Carbontech reeds,
MSD Enhancer,
Appropriate jetting for standard 38mm Mikunis,
Light weight flywheel,

Impros 13/16 cutback prop,
Bore stock nozzle 1mm on the radius / 2mm dia,
stubby pump cone.,

That little lot will be super reliable and provide a well balanced snappy responce.

Im sure someone else will say different though

Call Paul @ Jr Magoos

He will set you in the right direction, and sell you the stuff if you want it.
(I just hate making the 69,532 choices, I just want to ride)

Chuck,

You would honestly not need more than the following for a budget ski.

61X
ported
stock head shaved .035
single 44
b-pipe

This is what I have now, and it hits good enough to kick my 250 lb arse around. As soon as I get the concord prop on, it will really hook up.

If you want to go the next step, then I would go...

62T
Ported
Single 48
ADA Girdled head
MSD
B-pipe

Whatever you do, make sure you have a 13/17 concord as a prop.

I think the guys sending you to Magoo's forgot the BUDGET part in your post.

Chuck,

Don't you ride with Rickster, Waterfreak, and sflsurfrider. You should ride each of their skis (which are all slightly different combos) to get an idea of what you like and decide fom there.

Main thing is just start with a 701 from the get go. Preferably dual 44's.....mill the head and have a FS port job put on it. If that puts you over budget you should be ok with a stock 701 for a season no problem. You can do the ski a piece at a time.

Agreed! Highlighted in red is all you need. More than enough snap for the typical rider. Lose all the other stuff (msd, expensive heads, etc) if you're looking for a budget buildup.

you need a msd or modified stock cdi so you arent always hitting the rev limiter with the b pipe.

Need and want are two different things. Do you need it, no... If he goes above a 61x with b-pipe, then yes this would be a nice addition.

I don't think he has a motor yet but that is a nice break down for budget builds. IMO if you are in the market for a 701 motor I would just look for a dual carb 62T. It is a better platform to build off of for freestyle. Best case situtation the 62T performs better than the 61X in stock form so that may be some additional power there/ you like freestyle and want to continue to modify the motor.....you already have the 62T cases. Worst case situtation, you get a 61X motor, really enjoy freestyle and want more power and decide to track down a set of 62t cases for an additional $200 or so., plus a intake manifold. I was in the same boat you are in and sold the 61x stuff I had to do the 62T. But from what I have read if you do some porting and a b-pipe you will be happy.

Rat,

I agree 100%. I just picked up a 62T engine with stock 61x cylinders on it, full electrical with MSD and riva dual intake for $1K.

It would be hard to builld an engine for the same price.

the 62t engine leaves you with more scope if you decide to build a monster afterwards
you can use the bottom end and save some money
