experts: need guidance please!

i have a opportunity to buy a 2004 SXR 800 that probally has no more then 8 tanks of gas through it! it's completly stock except for blowson foot holds and blowson matting. only problem is it died about 3 years ago. totally melted a black wire from the stator all the way to the eletric box. still cranks over just no spark. worst case saniro i'll put a stator in it.......first question: is $2500 a good deal? second question: what happoned to this boat? how much are stators and is this a common problem?


the owner is a good friend of mine. i got him into standup's with my 550. i've known the boat since new! either of us have any idea what happned with the eletric system. just up and died! any opinions on this is greatly appricated! boat is in like new condition. been in friends basement after it died!

I can't help you as far as price goes,what happened to the boat is either someone put the battery in backwards or something shorted out ,the black wire is the system ground that runs from the elect box to the stator.

if it sat for 3 yrs with water in it chances are it has rusttttyyyyyy crank bearings, sleeves and rings, just because it turns over does not mean its good.

A stator for an 04 and newer is $400+ dollars I believe, I bought one this summer. Something may have shorted out or the stator went bad. Thats a great deal in my eyes as long as there are no other problems

FYI to everyone who owns an SXR any year 750 stator ill work.

Currently running a stator off a 1992 with no problem. All I had to do was tape off two wires and use the SXR connections.

Putting a new stator in it is not the worst case saniro, it's the best case saniro. Worst case saniro is that you have to replace the electricals, crank, pistons, and a bore.

Best case saniro is still a pretty good saniro especially with that price.

I think with either saniro, you're coming out ahead.

Sound to be a good deal to me. If if you do take the worst case scenario .......your getting a new ski. Not like anything has really changed in five years

I have seen this happen when you have a loose ground at the battery or engine ground.
Chances are the fried wire made the trigger wires short or break causing no spark. If the charging coils short out that should not effect the spark on that year. If the charging coils or wire leading to it are burnt then yeas a reverse polarity hook up of the battery or a faulty voltage regulator could be the cause.
