Evo's SJ

Thought I'd start a build thread on here for my ski - It's going to be slow going, but will give me a good place to ask questions specific to my build and let you guys enjoy watching me tear into a new SJ. Ultimate goal is to build it up in a way that 'appears' OEM.

Footholds/Turf

Started prepping for my foothold install, have never worked with glass before so I have a good friend who's done this helping to learn the methods. Picked up a set of the Tom21 holds. Can only read and talk about it so much, time to get cutting. I'm planning to go with the Black on orange diamond cut HT.

Ripping off the stock turf & adhesive - painful to pull a new ski apart but can't wait to ride with holds in.

Foothold placement - after reading a million threads on here - I realize it's personal preference, but I don't have any experience riding with holds, so I'll place them by standing in the tray and marking a comfortable position with a marker... Need to start somewhere. Also started tinkering with steering - trying to come up with a solution for us 08+... LRN's... that doesn't involve the pole/cable swap.

Looks/sounds good if it were me i would put the cats on the future mods list and move the b pipe to 2013 planed mods. A b pipe is the best mod for the money .

Agreed. Pipe and head before trim.

Yea, the B-Pipe is more of a $$ thing at this point. CATS is cheap. if I can find a deal on a used pipe I'll jump all over it. Waiting on a local guy to hit me up about his used carbon pipe - so ya never know.

Drilled holes for foaming, Epoxied & fastened the holds into place - Huge help to have someone that knows the process helping you out.

Spread a thin layer of epoxy on all surfaces, then mixed in some 404 as thickener for the "glue."

Finished foaming and glass today.

Used a 2 LB density foam from US composites, S-Glass Remnants for one layer of glass, and 3" E-Glass tape for another.

Dumped the ski in a local lake to bubble leak test it - looks good. Turf and padding is due in on Friday - next update should have the finished product.

Just did some of the exact same thing on my 12. Heres a couple links to footholds/steering. http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/128757-2012-SJ-Bob-adjustable-install

Wow.. that's alot of work to get those adjustables in there... looks good!

Finished up last night with the exception of getting the corner caps fastened back down. Overall happy with how it turned out.

Working with the turf & contact cement for hours and having OCD with wanting things to appear 'OEM' don't go together. Made some mistakes, but learned a lot along the way. I'm sure the orange will fade in .69 seasons, so I'll have another shot to turf soon enough.

Another observation - was going to use the 1" plush underpad, tried standing on it and honestly didn't care for it, then I realized i would have had to pocket it out bigtime to fit my big feet - so I ditched it in favor of 2 layers of 9mm pad- much better IMO. I would describe the difference as being similar to stock suspension/engine/trans mounts/bushings on a car vs. poly bushings.

with the 26mm pad, my foot felt almost too squishy, and unstable unless jammed into the hold, which I had to take a bunch of material away for it to fit anyway... less padding and I feel like it's a more controlled ski. Will get it in the water this weekend to see how it feels.

Ski is ready for the lake, and tossed the WORX228 on, heard a pop as I was tightening up the SHCS' so I'm gunna pull it back down and make sure I didn't do anything stupid... Tempted to polish it or paint black.
