had a customer bring in a jetboat that he said "just needed a starter" said it fell off and he found it down in the hull. popped the engine cover looked around a little bit and found a piece of a piston skirt in the bilge also!! lmao.. the guy did about the same thing as your pics. the only thing holding the motor together was the cylinder head! took it off and you could see the hull of the boat!!

Wow, I had the exact same thing happen to my 1200. It is almost always on the pto cylinder. Group K has a good article about why it happens.
