It is not always an air leak,anything that obstructs fuel flow can also cause the runaway condition you describe,I had a Seadoo pull this on me the other day,cause was a kinked fuel supply line to the carb,carbs,filters,fuel valve and pickup were clean as a pin and oh yeah ,no air leak.
this just happened to me yesterday.... on a freshly installed big pin motor (94 750sx) with dual keihins. Well... it was caused by a misadjusted throttle cable. I had the f/a's installed while adjusting the throttle :banghead:
I suppose this along with the initial cranking (carbs not fully primed) caused the engine to rev ski high.... and sustain the rpm even after removing the plug boots. Had to flood the engine with the primer.
Needless to say... I learned my lesson real quick.
