Freestyle Engine Rebuild Questions

62T/61X 701 motor at 84mm bore makes 760cc
My engine is running at low compression but the sleves and rings look pretty clean.
I'm going to install a new base gasket in case thatis leaking.
I measured the back and front cylinder there 84mm even.
Flat top pistons Back Piston is 83.2mm and front is 83.5mm (Gap in both pistons seems fairly large)
What dictates whether I need to put new pistons in?
What is the tolerance level for the difference in sleeve and piston?
Any other advise is greatly appreciated

You need to measure the bottom of the pistons. Measure it a couple times because it's tough to get a truly accurate number off of only one measurement. I say the bottom because the pistons are slightly tapered and the bottom is the widest part. Then measure the cylinder walls. If you have a T gage to measure inside and not right at the top (where the rings don't touch), it is best. What you're looking for is excessive piston to wall clearance. I forget what the limit is though.

FYI, I just rebuilt my engine because it was getting low on compression. Everything still looked perfect though.

What domes are you running in your head?
