Freestyle Engine issues...Stumped and could use some help.

Stumped on a issue and need some assistance! Last Sunday while riding i noticed a issue where maybe 1/3 of the time my ski came out of the water the motor would stay rev'd instead of winding down once i got off the throttle (throttle cable is not sticky). Other than that it ran great and didn't effect my ride time. Only other irregularity that happened Sunday was that i sunk the motor and had to pull the plugs and blow out the water. Started right up and ran it for another hour with no issues.

So this Saturday dumped the ski in and issue reared its head right away.

Ski starts fine, idles fine, able to get up to planing speed, but from about 1/4 to 3/4 throttle it acts like its getting too much fuel..or not enough maybe. Just bogs down and there is no thrust in that range.

Once you hit WOT it clears up and runs like a raped ape.

So Sat night we pulled carbs and looked for any air leaks in the carb gaskets etc. Replaced the inline fuel filter, found that my plug wires were broken off in the boots and fixed that. Also checked for exhaust leaks.

We thought we had it figured out with the broken plug wires...but no such luck.

Spent most of today fiddling with carbs. The only time it didn't run like poop was with my lows and highs both out 3 full turns. And it only ran about at about 80% for 20 mins or so..then went back to running like crap.
Really feels like its either getting too much fuel, or not enough..but adjusted everywhere from fully closed lows or highs to 3 turns out and everywhere between with not much in results.

Thoughts? Plan tonight is to tear down carbs and check internal filters and the jets. If nothing jumps out at me there the only other thing i can think of is to tear down completely and check the crank seal.

I really am stumped cause it ran fine last Sunday except for the free revving issue and this issue started the following Saturday out of the blue and is not consistent. It will run fine on the trailer sometimes...other times it wont. Will run fine on the water for a few seconds...then it wont.

Runaway throttle in the air probably means it is lean. If it runs best with adjusters 3 turns out that means either your jetting is too small or you have an airleak causing the lean condition.

Thanks for the feedback Chris!

I got it figured out today. Turns out when i rebuilt my carbs i left the old little clear flapper thingy in the carb...so after 2 months of riding. it moved around and started causing the issue. Got that out and it ran like a dream...now i just gotta retune my carbs after screwing with them lol.
