i just bought a pipe on ebay(item 330376858002) for my db and he charged 10.75 for shipping. he just messaged me today saying it cost him 34.66 for shipping and wants me to make up the amount. i know its against the rules and he cant make me pay it, and i know i can file a complaint against him for asking. But ive been there before, and lost my ass on a sell. ive never asked someone else to pay me more though, because it was my fault. but i do feel bad for the guy (he hasnt sold much on there)and not sure if i should send him more money (after i receive the pipe, of course.)
on the other hand he could just trying to score some more money, and i shipped my fork and shock to the same city for 27 bucks. so idk wtf to do.

what would you do?

Where is he from?
Chance to talk to him on the phone?
I dunno, hard to tell nowadays.
Ask him to send you the USPS receipt and you will mail him a MO or check for the amount.....:dunno:

What would I do?

I would ask him if he would refund you the difference if the mistake had been charging $34.66 for shipping when it cost only $10.75.

Tell him you'll split the difference and give him like $7 more and thats all. He'll prolly go for it and all will be solved.

It was his fault for not charging enough in the first place..

Yeah at most I would send him half the difference because it is completely his own fault. Make absolutely sure the pipe is everything you thought it would be before sending any money though. A receipt won't say much since there are many post offices that don't list each line item when you ship multiple things. If it's USPS, it may have a dollar value on it anyway.

I have messed up before, but I never expect the buyer to send me money.

There have been occasions that I mentioned that it cost me more, but I stated that it was my fault and not theirs...and yet they still sent me the extra money. While it was greatly appreciated, I wouldn't have held it against them if they didnt as I didn't expect them to in the first place.

So, Yes..its the nice thing to do in my opinion..but he cant force you to do it. You just gotta put yourself in his shoes.

I just had an incident where a buyer in Canada paid $10.95 for shipping and then had to pay an additional $58.00 cdn when he picked it up from the Post Office. UPS charged him $54 for "customs services"! The item sold for much more than I had originally anticipated so I had room to move and so i refunded him half the additional fee.

I gave the refund because I should have remembered that UPS did that from all my experiences and advised him differently. I have since revised my ebay auctions to not include UPS to Canada. The UPS Store will advise you that UPS is cheaper to Canada than USPS but they have no idea about the customs fees.

I shipped my factory pipe and an intake grate in a huge box for like $20-$25. I've also miscalculated shipping. I usually tell the buyer but I never ask for anything in return. I usually just let them know that I ate the extra cost so that maybe they won't be a jerk if there is some nit picky thing they didn't like when it gets there.

I don't even tell the buyer, because it's none of their business if I screwed up.
Besides, the price is visible on the shipping label anyhow.

It's not your responsibility to make up the difference in shipping. I'd be real clear in telling him that.
