So learned my lesson about doing stabs without a helmet, landed a lil sideways and slapped my head in the water. Its not real bad, constantly hurts just a bit but alot worse when I lean down. Any tips or tricks to treating it? I think there may be a lil bit more water but it wont come out.

I don't think It is a ruptured ear drum or else you would be in extreme pain. Whenever I get out of the lake I put a solution in my ear of one third alcohol, one third vinegar and a third water. I have not got an ear infection since. Don't quote me on this but it has worked good for me it dries up the water in the ear.
Let it go in though I usually lay on my side for 30-45 seconds before doing the other ear.

Actually...you can tear the eardrum and not have any pain at all. My roommate has one now from the lightning strike last weekend that hit through his room. If you do have a tear in the eardrum and you got water in there as well, you may have an infection starting. The eardrum is one of the most infection-prone tissues. I would recommend getting it checked at the doctor.

If you put alcohol in an ear that's already hurting - you better hold on quick for some real pain at that point

you got that right! I've had ear infections since i was a kid... and i've ruptured my right ear drum no less than 5 times... I put an alcohol based swimmers ear solution in one time... and only one time... F' that shiot!!!

i keep antibiotic drops from the doctor on hand for that...

When you do that alcohol/vinegar/water solution, do you make some for each day or make a bunch every couple of weeks and keep it in a bottle? I have been having problems with my ears for the past few years and basically just deal with the pain, can't afford to keep going to the ear doctor to have them give me crap.

I just mix a bunch every couple of weeks. I get a little dropper and put a couple of drops in each ear.
I think you will get a lot less pain.

I had no pain with my rupture, just sounded like I was in a large pipe.

If you did tear it and it gets infected, you could lose some hearing. Get it checked, and get on antibiotics if needed.

You can go to CVS or any drug store and buy an ear drying aid for $5. They are back by the eyedrops, near the pharmacy. The stuff I have is called "Auro-dry".

Put like 5 drops in your ear. Lay on your side for 30 or so seconds. You can feal it entering your ear, let it sit for a sec once it's in there. Drain it out using a tissue.

The alcohol mix is much cheaper, but it can be painful. $5 for a bottle that will last several weeks if you use it every day is cheap. It's worth it to me. It lasts for ever since I go out 3 times a week.

Try it out. The worst case is that you don't think it's worth it, and you have a bottle to mix your vinager in.

Go to the doctor.... DO NOT put anything in your ears w/o docs approval.
I was told specificly to NOT use ear drops for a ruptured ear drum... You can't use that dry stuff either... It's your hearing, go get it checked out.

I ruptured/tore mine and it didn't hurt for more than a few hrs... Pain is not the only way to tell if you tore or ruptured it... Can you blow air out your ear ???? not pop your ears, but actually blow water and air out???

I take it not many read the threads i posted about doing that.
I put "Swim ear"(alcohol based) in my ear when i had a perforated drum and it felt like someone was was jabbing a letter opener knife in and out of my head. Worst pain ever! I was flopping around on the floor like a fish screaming at the top of my lungs..:banghead::banghead::banghead: F that!

yup... and that's why the doc says to not put ANYTHING in a ruptured drum except anti-biotics

I'm sure I know what one feels like. Actually had a blister on my ear drum last summer. That was painful as hell. Couldn't touch my ear, had blood coming out. Did the whole doctor thing, had to put these drops in, take these pills. Since this, been pretty careful of what I put in my ear and how deep. But I am going to try this little three part mixture up just to keep them clean for when I do get done riding...

the doctor told me the best way to keep water out of your ear and to keep them infection free (this is for people w/o ruptured ear drums)..

mix:
50% vinegar
50% alcohol (isopropyl)

shoot it into the ear canal and then let it drip out... The alcohol dries out any water and the vinegar kills bacteria... Alcohol will not kill bacteria in your ear alone, it just displaces the water then evporates... The vinegar actually kills the bacteria... makes your ears smell nice too... LOL
