Super Jet E.P.I.C cdi hook up

i am trying to hook up my epic cdi and rotary switch.

i have the diagram and a rotary swith. when making the connections it shows the black and pink wire coming out of the cdi and eidt lead to be used for the rotary switch. the cdi is just like the stock as far as connections and has two black wires coming out of the cdi. one is the for the rotary switch the other for the oem harness, the stator.

the stock cdi had one black wire going to the stator and the other going to the coil.

is there a reason the epic instructions are different than oem? does it matter which black wire is plugged in where? or as long as they are all used because they are just gounds?

thanks in advance,
wayne

All blacks should just be grounds. different configs just give different options. As long as the switch gets the pink wire to ground you should be good.

Let me know how the switch works out for you, I just bought a switch for mine so i can go between different curves for surf and flatwater. I have to tame down my SS865 for the surf...this is a good problem to have

thanks,

now for the switch.

it is the switch i got with the cdi. it has:

red male
blue female
white female

the switch package says to use the blue and red for the left
the center is off
use the white and red for the right

after plugging in the cdi i have the black male from the start/stop ground which was for the thermo sensor and the pink female.

the red wire from the switch is the only male and the pink wire is the female. so does the red wire plug into the pink wire and the blue or white plug into the ground. i just want to make sure i hook it up correct.

thanks,
wayne

It's just switching the pink wire to ground so not much to mess up. Just need to indicate which direction on the switch is what, which can get forgotten down the road way too easily unless marked down somewhere.

I still wonder why they spec a 3 pos switch when a single position will do. Off = Curve A, On = Curve B.

Bottom line, if the pink wire has a path to ground, Curve B will be active.

I use a multimeter to confirm all switching connections but if you connect the colors the way they say, you will be good.

the switch does not plug in direct without modifying. you will need a male male jump wire to plug the switch wire into the epic harness. or change the plugs on the switch wires. i have the same issue.

What am I missing here, one male and one female on cdi...one male and 2 female on the switch?
Connect switch red male to pink female wire on epic, and hook black male on epic to blue or white switch female depending on which direction you want the switch to activate curve B.

A switch is a switch and the colors are only for reference. No need to worry about polarity in this situation.

For simplicity I will be using a military toggle for mine and will make up an adapter harness right into my ebox thru my "Tidy Bilge Harness". I was playing with installing the toggle into my e-box cover but i hate drilling into something that seals so well if left alone.

i was just following directions on mine. all the way left is one curve all the way right is the other curve.

how is your ebox water tight mine is anything but, and it is relatively new. sank my ski yesterday and the box was as full as anything.

the water in the box also kept grounding out my epic. the wire harness and the computer wire are really easy to ground out with water.

i was under the impression that off is curve one and left or right is the second curve. on atp's webpage it shows the switch and says to use the other position for a bilge pump. i hooked all the ground wires up just like the oem cdi instead of how epic shows it. this is a link to the atp site with the switch i have. go to online shop, the electrical, and it is about the fourth item down.

i installed mine with out the rotary switch and it acted like the timing was off. i put it on the trailer for the day and pulled my flywheel to verify my timing marks where still lined up and they where. i rechecked the connections in the ebox and every thing was good. started it back up and it sounds good, but when you rev it up it dies like it is not getting spark.

i am going to put my stock cdi back on and see if it runs or not. i changed my cdi and put a jss rebuilt stator on at the same time. figured i would change the cdi first and see if that fixes the problem. if not i will put on a different stator. damn i hate these problems.

any help would be appreciated,
wayne

I never really tested my seals yet, so far I keep my ski above the water, works like like a charm.

We only recommend this switch as it is readily available (hot products sell them) and reliable, it is not made for EPIC its just a generic waterproof switch that happens to be 3 position. Any waterproof 2 way switch will work ,all you need to do is switch the pink to ground. When the switch is off you will be running the A curve and when it is on you will be running the B curve.

wayne, have you checked the static timing to make sure it's set properly or accounted for in your curve? just a thought.

i was told to just line up the timing marks on the stator and cases and that should be just fine. i have double checked and had swooperjet look amd make sure it was on the money. nothing like standing on your head in your engine compartment. lol
