Dumb 2stroke question..... But I got to ask it.

Mikuni, I just looked again and I was wrong the screw on the right is lower.
Hmmm, now why cant I get top end?????

I have more power at 1/2 throttle than WOT. At WOT it coughs sputters cracks and pops sounds and acts like it's starving but open the jet up and nothing changes.....

I did sink 2 weeks ago and trying to get it going from that. I just thought, I wonder if there is something stuck in the high side jet? Guess I'll get a rebuild kit and tear it apart.

Well right before it was just starting to act funny, we thought it wasnt pushing enough water or something. But I think it just didnt have it in the top end. Now it definatly dont have it in the top end.

Sitting out of the water at WOT it raps so far then starts poping both exhaust and carb. Almost sounds like a rev limiter or out of time, But it's a 78.... 1/2 throtle actually revs higher than full.

Okay...if it was running okay before, then your carb adjustments aren't the issue. They don't really go "out of tune".

Btw, they always run great out of the water. Putting a load on it is the only way to troubleshoot it.

I put new plugs in it, and it starts with just a mere bump of the button.
What else could it be?

I'll research and work on it later, I have changed my attention for teh day to working on my boat. It got rear ended on the way to the lake last weekend. Sunk the ski the weekend before, I'm starting to see a patern, I'm not sure that I'm suppose to be on the water this year.... LOL

Nonsense! Not a problem til you're bleeding...then not really if all your bones are still in place and one piece.

Don't forget to check the mechanical condition of the engine. Having lean condition at wot on a 2 stroke can be detrimental. Also being '78 year model, I would guess you are running a "BN" carb with the screw in style needle and seat and the round pump body. Make sure if you order a kit to get the right one. The SBN, BN and i series will not interchange except in the 38/44/46mm SBN and the 38/40mm i-series.
