It'd b easier to just buy a nozzle setup for trim, but has anyone tried drilling and tapping a nozzle not setup for trim? Those nozzles are made of cheap "potted" metal. I was unsure how well my threads would hold up in a raider nozzle.

I have welded aluminum spacers to a superjet nozzle then drilled and tapped that. It held up well. Also I have drilled and tapped holes in the exit nozzle. Then mounted the trim ring with bolts that just sat in those threads. I used thin nuts as spacers and it lock it into the exit nozzle so it could not come out of either hole that I drilled in the nozzle. Its kind of hard to explain.

mine was built up around the holes with some aluminum weld.then drill and tap.i dont think it hold very well without the metal buildup.i was able to even get some helicoils in mine.

Use a SJ alum nozzle and have 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/2" square alum pieces welded on, then grind them down to perfectly fit your trim ring and drill and tap them. The SJ nozzle is better than using the Raider trim nozzle for the stand-up application and you can put your tabs as far forward or back as your want. I did that set up years ago, and basically copied what Freestylegeek did. He had a thread about it on here. It held up great and had a lot of throw being setup that way.
