Super Jet drilling into the tray......uhh.

So I was screwing in my footholds today, on the exhaust side.. About 10 inches from the front of the tray when I was screwing my hold in, I started to hit a harder material about half an inch in. It was like this from the 10-13 inches or so from the front of the tray. The screws still went in, but a lot harder.
What could I have hit?
This was 10-13 inches from the front of the tray, and a little over an inch from the side of the tray, and about 1/2 an inch deep into the tray.
Any insight?

Thanks!

I think it's slightly to the right of that.

Wait.. Is the steering tube the tube the furthest to the right?(the tube to the right of the two metal tubes) This isnt my ski:

I don't think it's anything to worry about. It wasn't the two metal tubes, and if it went into the steering tube, that's no big deal unless they hit the steering cable. But they're short screws, so they wouldn't have even been able to go through the steering cable.

I used self tapping screws, and this started about 2 feet from the rear of the ski. Including the thickness of the foothold, I'd say this started 3/8 of an inch into the tray. Does the pump tunnel stick up that far 2 feet from the rear of the tray? And it was under 2 inches from the edge of the tray, which I think was just to the right of the pump tunnel..

Im guessing exhaust if anything, the front of the footholds nearly sit on top of it , towards the back not so much of an issue as the exhaust angles down.

Exhaust sits in the gunwale, not in the tray though. I would only have hit the exhaust if I screwed into something besides the thickness of the hull in the side of the gunwale. When I was measuring the cuts for my holds, the exhaust pipe was a little over an inch from where the tray meets the gunwale. So there's no way I hit that.
