300/440/550 Doubts of a 650sx

I own a abused 92' 650sx stock.


The main issue is, from what I have read, it isn't a great ski to upgrade, and am better off buying a used SJ...

Parting it out? Is it worth it?

Any thoughts or advice would be great.

Well obviously if you can part something it always pays better. But do you really want to spend all the time doing that?

650 is a fine ski to learn on, and there are a few people who rock them on here. Just ride everything and make your own opinion.

The rest of the answers will be something like buy a Superjet lol. I just don't want to discourage you too much.

Extremely comfortable on the ski, but at the point were I feel I rather need to upgrade it, to allow me to try different things, or buy a new ski.

From stock, how much more can I get out of a 650sx with lets say $1000.

Is it enough to stop me from buying a superjet?

I would highly suggest not spending $1000 on the 650sx. In this case I would definitely say sell it and move to a superjet as cliche as that is.

If you put $1000 into your 650 it will still not be a superjet, some will make the argument that putting money into a 750sx can come out with a freestyle monster but honestly most will go the easier route of buying an SJ.

With that money alone you could pick up a 701 SN Superjet, while selling the 650sx could be sold to buy parts for the SJ.

I'd like to offer another alternative:

Get a JS550 hull, and throw your 650 engine into it.

It's a common mod, and there is tons of documentation on the process.

The JS550 hull is a challenge to master, but has lots to recommend it.

A nice hull with everything you need should be cheap.

All you need after that is a conversion plate for the engine.

(and your 650sx engine\exhaust\regulator)

You need to figure out what you want from a ski and how much money you are willing to spend on this hobby. Keeping your old 650 may be the best choice, or you may need a $20,000 custom ski. Most people compromise and go for a Superjet. For the money it is the best option for the way people here like to ride.

Im going to off shoot you guys here. I would like to say that I do like my 650 alot. I have some goodies on it, and have learned alot while riding it. I have ridden 550's, and they are a challenge to master. I have not ridden a superjet, so I can't comment there. I guess what i'm saying is that like the ski I have even though most people would not agree. Also if your new to this it is a good learner ski, just not worth alot.

I would recommend that you ride a few skis and figure out what you want and how much money you want to spend.
I've tried just about every standup out there. The one that I liked the least was the 650SX. For my riding style, I like MY Superjet the best, but a lot of people cannot stand MY Superjet. That's why you should try a few different rides.
I've also tried a 550 with a 650 in it. While it is a fun ride, I wouldn't want it as my main ride for freestyling/freeriding.

if i were you put the money toward a sj, you can get good $ for a 650sx around here and put your 1000 bucks into the superjet

if you want to try some good superjets come up to barrie and try some of ours, i know there hard to come by so it might help you make up your mind up

im sure you might find some people up here that would buy your ski aswell
