Does leaning mean waterlogged?

I have been noticing that my ski has been leaning pretty hardto the right hand side lately when in the water. I know that the exhaust could be holding some but it is leaning so far that the right side rails are under water. I recently installed footholds but it leaned before that. It might be a tad worse now though. Thanks for the help

Did you not dig down into the foam to check for water when you put the footholds in?

well the battery is on the right side too.

mine had a slight lean but i doubt it was because of water.

drill a hole under the exhaust and see if water comes out.

the water comes in around the exhaust tube. a slight starbord list is normal, but submerging the rail is usually w-logged.

Mine was to the point where the right side bumper was an inch or two under water.

The foam is connected, but it's not like a sponge where it's all damp. Different sections will be wet and others will be dry. The right hand side has more penetrations so is more likely to be wet. Exhaust, steering, water lines are all on that side.

Don't freak him out! Most skis have a lean to them. Do what Demolition_x said. Drill a small hole and see if water comes out before you tear into the thing.

On a positive note, you can probably do a rh BR much easier now!

The Battery is why most SJ's lean to the right. I put a 5lb battery in my ski, and the problem went away. Thats -7lbs from the right font of the ski. I like saving weight...... I know how much it helps.

if it leans still, drill a small hole under the exhaust like 1/2 inch above the bottom of the hull and sit the ski tilted back for a day and see if water comes out. of no water comes out plug it up with some 5200

im not really prepared to do anything right now anyways. I think i might try after daytona to dive into that crap. Hopefully before spring really warms things up. What kind of foam? any good threads to look at. (or does someone want to come down here and do it for me $$$) nahh, I just wish i had the money to go ahead and get an A/M hood and handlepole. then i could just strip everything and refoam and paint all at once.

i mean my ski dripped and had standing water when i cut it up yesterday and it didn't lean much. depends where the water is getting in i guess if its only getting in on the one side i guess it could be making it lean. if water doesn't come out i wouldn't worry about it.

Here's an idea,

instead of drilling a hole in the hull wouldn't it be easier to drill out one of the exhaust rivets ?

I would rather replace a rivet adding some sealant than have a hole in the hull.
Any thoughts ?

lets say it does and i need to refoam, what precautions can i take to help postpone waterloggin in the future? i have heard something about drain plugs with a certain type of foam but im not sure. also. where are the best places to start cutting the glass while preserving my new footholds?

i tried to get my exhaust pipe out with the foam in and it wouldn't budge more than an inch. i had to get rid of the foam to get it out completley.


i really doubt you need a refoam job. drill the hole and see whats up. if you get a Plug for each side

if you do that and drain the water like once a month i think you will be in good shape.
