Do you need underpadding when returfing?

I already said I only ride flatwater, this guy is in michigan which is landlocked, he isn't going to be going 15' in the air in his sxr. He can use underpad if he wants, I'm not, and I'm not going 15' in the air either, I have landed from more than 5 all the time with no underpad and it has never bothered me. I will never get 15' of air to know how painful a non padded landing is.

how do you know he won't someday???

Hell, I'm from Mi. and didn't know it was landlocked????

Why don't ya tell that to the three lakes surrounding it that have waves up to 10ft...

your method is deviating from the norm. and that's not really cool to tell him a non standard method and not list as such. I don't know one person that rides w/o padding and most have switched to the 25mm becuase of the comfort. Stick w/ what works and is proven when giving general advice

I meant to say illinois when I said his location (edited it since), was thinking lake michigan being by chicago (I think at least). I don't know why not padding is so non standard though, every superjet comes from factory w/o padding (mine did at least). If he is hitting 10 ft waves though, it should be pretty common sense to pad if it has been hurting when he lands. I had the intention of helping the guy, I guess I should have gave a disclaimer, w/e though.

group hug???

:grouphug:

he he he...

it protects the skis tray too... I have broken the trays out on all my skis until this one w/ the thicker padding...

I've got to agree with the group here, for sure. I ride mostly on lakes but I can get 8-10 ft on a stab and I just finally got my stab 2 weeks ago. I used 2 layers of 8mm on my SN and wish I had used 3. I will be using 25mm on my FX1 when I returf it next week.

I do also have small feet and will be using plenty of 8 mm (possible more than one layer, it came with WD footwells) on the sides and top of the footwells. You may need to use less on the top and sides of the footwells to fit larger feet, or make the tray underpad thinner (or both) to fit your feet into your footwells.

I am also old enough to feel the impact on a jump gone wrong (no backies yet for me!) and I've only been riding standups 7 years. Just think what a person's knees and ankles could feel like after riding with no padding for a few decades (like you'll feel when you reach MY age!). This is a definite "Trust the Group" moment", go for all the padding you can get into the tray and footwells and still be able to cram your feet in there. Your body will thank you in the long run.

No he will not!
How about this, I ride flat water 97.823% of the time and I LOVE the 25mm underpadding, I will never use anything less. I probably would still be able to run fast too if I had it two years ago when I crushed my heel. Seriously though, just stop thinking about it and get the 25mm, you won't regret it. I did however pad inside my footholds with 8mm. Another thing I didn't see mentioned is to pad the top of the footholds, your feet will thank you.

Why is this underpad thing such a big issue anyway? It's kinda like breathing.....you just do it :drillsergeant:

at the risk of repeating what others have already posted this is how I set em up. footholds installed -( I like the richters better too btw) ( fi you go with the wd cut a huge f'in notch for ankle clearance) put the pad down, put a scrap of turf over it, put a scrap on your shoes( wrestling or what you will ride in) shove in the hold, nice tight fit proceed with turf install, too loose put some thinner pad on top of hold, too tight sand some off of the bottom pad, nuff said.

and here is how we did the sxr rail caps, credit to djkorn we stole his idea.

I actually live in Chicago but ride out of New Buffalo, Michigan (Lake Michigan) where there is up to 8-10 footers on rough days. There is always decent chop with 40+ foot boats coming out of the harbor daily.

I get decent air on my SXR, at least I think so.

I've already decided I'm using underpadding. What I'm deciding on now is whether to go with Waterdawg REVs or Blowsion Kickers.
