Do RN SJ hulls leak in water when sitting in still water?

Do superjet hulls leak in water when sitting in still water?

I'm thinking of putting hull without engine into water to see if water would leak into it or not. If it does, i'm probably going to see where water is coming in.... If water does leak in, is it by design or signs some seals are messed up?

SJ hulls generally leak yes. But, you're not going to see water pouring in or anything like that. Over a long period of time the foam in the tray area gets waterlogged, and that us due to leakage. There are many places water can get in: bad seals on any through hull tubes (steering cable, stock siphon, exhaust, driveshaft) or other places like pump bolts (those need to be sealed) etc.

Having said that, there are also places that could leak which would indicate a problem. A crack is a big problem of course, but another common "leak failure" is the midshaft seal.

So, yes: a superjet will leak. Seapage that wets foam over a period of years is frustrating but normal, and bigger leaks might indicate a problem.

do you have the stock bilge? if so block that off one time and see if that stops your problem. buddies rn sj kept taking on massive amounts of water. ended up being water coming in through the stock bilge.

Did he still have the loop in the hose? It's unusual for the siphon itself to leak.

I had another idea... but maybe it's not the best. Instead of putting whole hull into the water to see where water will leak in, can I put water in the stripped engine bay to see what leaks out?

When I first bought my SJ I noticed the stock bilge hose ran all the way up above the electrical box and then right back down to the outlet a mere 3" away. I thought how stupid is this, so I removed the "Loop" and just ran it straight from the pick up to the outlet in the bulkhead. Stupid idea as I soon found out because water can then syphon directly into the hull. The Loop is necessary because when the engine is off it makes the path of the water have to travel above the water line (which it won't do) eliminating a leak in through the stock bilge.

Does anyone have any photos of how the stock bilge pump is supposed to be mounted and how the wire must loop? Just wanna make sure mine is correctly done.

i have a 94 sn and it also is leaking somewhere, the foam in the rear is waterlogged and im getting little drips of water out the bracket of the exaust. any suggestions?
