The JS is the original designation of the Kawasaki Jet Ski (JS). In 1990 they introduced the 550sx which came with the rear through hull exhaust. In 1991 Kawasaki came out with the Reed Motor for the 550SX model. These ski's were still listed as a JS ie JS-550sx.
The 300 starting around 1986 or so came with a new hull design with the same SX designation. Actually, think this was around 88 or so. The 650 was also called the JS-650sx, and the JS-650X2 model was also introduced (1986)
The first sit down by Kawasaki was the JS-650TS and then the JS-650SC (Side by side seating)
I have an all glass 440 hull that is in excellent condition. I did hear something about these but could never find the info again, anybody know about these ?
no kidding, about 10 years ago we had a small pond that we use to practice on (Bouys), we had our 550sx's (Limiteds), and FX1 and a Limited SN 701. We constantly turned faster lap times on the 550's!
In 1990 they also changed the jet pump and the driveshaft setup on the 550,the driveshaft used the same bulkhead bearing assembly as the 650-750 based skis and the impeller screws onto the pump shaft backwards compared to a 89 and earlier model, also added in 1990 were the rubber trim for the side gunwhales which replaced the neoprene on the older units, the hull remained the same other than a graphics change and a reed engine was added in 1991.
