Did I get screwed with my 760 purchase?

I bought a waveblaster 2 a little while ago with the intention of swapping the 760 into my ski. I took the engine out yesterday and noticed that the cylinders seem to be sandblasted as they look like bare aluminum and have 62t stamped on them. My cylinder head and cases have 64x stamped on them. Did I get screwed into buying a 701 engine that someone pieced together? The engine was freshly rebuilt just before I bought it.

Someone told me the waveblaster 2 has an oddball engine as far as 760's go but I can't seem to find any specific info on it.

I can get pictures if it would help.

Pretty sure that's how they came. The 62T cylinder casting was used for both 701's and 760's with different sleeves and porting for each.

Yes, you have the correct components that came in a WB2. The 760 motors from a B2 are the same as any other, just later models were black instead of blueish silver. You can run SJ flywheel, stator, and CDI if you want to get some less rotating mass and have the option of running an Enhancer or similar, 61X lightened flywheel would be my recommendation...

That's interesting to hear that later models came with black engines! Mine is a 97, the last year the B2 was made wasn't it?

My plan was to keep all the electronics with the 760 and just remove the extra dash wires unless you think it would be a better idea to remove the rev limiter from my 650 cdi and use the 650 ebox?

I believe the 760 electronics has different ignition timing for the rear cylinder. I could be wrong about that. I would use the 61x flywheel/stator and ebox.

Ok so I shouldn't mix ebox's unless I match the flywheel/stator. Hmm there are a lot of setup options to weigh here. Thanks a lot for the help guys.

Just read up about the B2's ignition timing via group k's site and it looks like the ignition fires 2 degrees retarded at all times. That would mean I could advance the timing 2 degrees for a lightweight stand up application since the crank shouldn't undergo the intense torsion that happens under load in the blaster hull right?

Likewise, I'm putting my squarenose 650 engine back in the b2 to get it moving again. After reading up on rear piston seizures and the reasoning for the B2's retarded timing I'm beginning to become concerned about the 650's longevity if I just bolt it in the way it is. Would you guys advise retarding the 650 timing or do you think it just doesn't have the power to momentarily twist the crankshaft and bring the rear cylinder out of time?

I don't think a 650 makes enough power to hurt itself.... I know the rev limiter is low on the 650 engines. I know one thing, that 650 is gonna be WFO all the time trying to get that wb2 moving!

Do you think it'll be un-rideable? I used to have a tigershark monte carlo 650 three seater that moved alright. The bottom end was pretty much non-existent but it got up into the low 30's. My point is the B2 is a heck of a lot smaller and lighter than my old monte carlo. The pump in the B2 is a 155mm with a low pitched impeller. I suppose that could be a good and bad thing?
