Defoamig an OEM RN hull

I am about to buy a reinforced and defoamed hull, with low nose and hood. The hull is painted, has footholds and turf all around, scupper valve. No cracks....yet...can anybody put in their opinion on defoamed hulls? The price is attractive at 650 usd....

I'd foam it through the OEM foam holes.

exactly - what is the advantage? I know the ski weighs like 4 kg's less.... and yes, the hull is now defoamed, has scupper valve, not a drain valve...

the advantage is that it's lighter, thats it.

if it's not reinforced in the area the foam was in it will crack more easaly. I would foam the ski to keep it from sinking.

Racers want the weight in the right places and not just in the rear.

The reason for re-foaming is simple.

To get rid of the wet heavy foam.
To reinforce the rear of the hull.
To seal up the rear of the hull.

While in the tray you can run scupper tubes, trim tubes, bigger water lines,..........

Reasons to run without foam.
Save some weight and maybe send your ski to Davey Jones locker.

There are only two ways that running with no foam would lead to sending your ski to the bottom. One is if you were to have some sort of catastrophic failure such as a wreck with another ski or the worlds biggest bail. Risk is mitigated by reinforcing, which that ski already has. Second way is if you are a retard and either don't install a drain for the defoamed cavity or if you have a drain and you're too stupid to drain it regularly. I don't think the risk is nearly as big as people make it out to be.

That's why there is a maybe in my sentence.

My friend runs without foam and has done so for quite some time.
His hull leaks around the footholds but never did he have a problem with the hull going underwater totally. She still floats just as good as if there was foam in there, maybe won't float as long but long enough to save the ski.
He grains it before every tank full session.

that boat might of been a race ski.
I would put hood straps on if your not going to re-foam, thats if your going to use it for freestyle

I think you might be right. The owner is a racer who converted more into freestyle I think - he still races and makes awesome SJ and SXR type lite hulls in Latwia, Europe. He was recommended by a Finnish guy from this forum.

How would these straps help with the foam?

So the bottom line in this case: I can run it as a practice FS boat, but should chceck for leaks and if I find any install a drainage valve/opening. The reinforcemnts is around the engine bay and bottom, not around tray area.

Will the floor crack from jumps ( I understand that a defoamed boat has no foam underneath your feet, but a thin layer of oem fiberglass)

Yes, even a stock one with foam will.

the straps helps keep the hood locked on. cuz if water gets in that ski and its got no foam, good by ski. she will sink like a rock and if your in deep water best of luck

read more on here...guys here state that a defoamed ski will float when swamped because of the trapped air in the pump hull area...they leak but not that fast...that's why you have drain plugs....

I never ride that hull, i defoamed it, because there was lot of wet foam there. You definately need to instal drain plugs. If you ride in flatwater only, hull mustn't crack, but you can simply foam it tru stock foam holes.
