Had TBM flywheel non-charging, and had a starter bendix blow apart and distroy it, big suck, and i don't have the money to buy a new one. So I took the magnets out of the stocker and was going to machine alot of the metal out, it still has alot of magticity to it, anyone tryed this before, can you de-magnitize it, It took almost 1lb out of it oh by the way it is any SXR

Here's a little something I have done before to demagnetize metal, but for your specific situation it may not work given the amount of metal that needs it. I used to work on pre-2004 Polaris 4-wheelers and they have metal plates in the front hubs that get magnetized when the AWD coils charge up. Occasionally these plates will retain magnetism and one wheel will stay locked in AWD. To de-mag it, I have used one AA battery with a wire on each end and I would touch the plate with the other ends of the wire. A little spark jumps and there you have it. A demagnetized armature plate.

You could try this with the flywheel but those magnets are not only a lot stronger, but permanent and not charged so it may not work...or one battery just might not be enough jolt to straighten it out. The only other thought that comes to mind if all else fails is to take it to a machine shop and ask them if they can do you a favor by sticking it onto their surface grinder bed and using the de-mag function on it. This function is usually only meant for de-maging the bed surface but it does work a little on the parts and makes removal much easier as well. Hope this helps.

Placing it in an AC magnetic field will also work. DC has the effect of aligning magnetic poles, AC the opposite.

peening it lightly will work too, just don't hit it hard enough to damage it.

That flywheel will work once you are done if you are running 04 and later electronics or an aftermarket cdi. On the 03 you need the magnets. Try heating the flywheel slowly in an oven to 450 degrees make sure the ring gear is being supported by the ridge. After cooling down make sure the ring gear is fully down on the ridge. You could press in on a press if needed. It removes the magnetism off the charging flywheel magnets, I am not to sure on yours. If you are machining the stocker couldn't you machine the tbm and make it a total loss as long as long as you have an advent you should be ok

I will try those things!! Thanks for the Tips!! It is the new ignition in both sxr and sxi, I am also running advents too, so I am safe both ways!! thanks
