Do you still have that Excel Program that I email to you? How did that work for you?

I didnt have excel, but Im currently using the open office program that darin suggested. Setting it up much like yours though.
Darins budget "sytem" was very impressive but I didnt need something that complex.

havent been using it for very long yet. should help me straiten things out though.

If you open that program up you should be able to amend that worksheet as much as you like. However if you already have a program that you are using with some success then more power to you. I like our system because it is fairly simple and very adjustable. Though it sounds a lot like Jett's system only we don't have an extra account.

Simple I pay my utility bills when they come in and my home once a month other than that that’s it I owe no one.
Other money goes into my portfolio every week. Cut and dried no need for special accounts grafts or charts I know where my money is.

although everyone does it a little different we all have the same goal in mind...
I get paid every 2 weeks and my wife gets paid on the 1st and the 15th.
"without" a budget this has actually caused problems.

I haven't had a chance to buy the book yet, maybe tonight.
Right now I have to go fix my truck. the warranty is long gone
and I still owe roughly 20 grand on it. <--- a perfect example
of why I want out of debt.

:banghead: you should hear what dave has to say about buying new cars. there was a good link somewhere in this thread.

Well, I haven't found the link but I know it can't be good.

payments for my truck and my wifes car come to about $950/month
then you also have to add that we have full coverage on both those cars.
which equals alot of money per month just for vehicles...:banghead:

And in all honesty I'm stuck with my truck. i've tried several options to try
to get rid of it and none have worked.

Save 15 bucks and go borrow it from the library

Not a bad idea... I really don't go to the library often enough, actually I don't go at all. I haven't been to a library in at least 10 years. I started going to Barnes and Noble when I lived in Tennessee and and continue to go since I moved to MI, They actually just built one not to far from me. I proposed to my wife at Barnes and Noble. (no joke, long story).

were going to sit down after we put our son:baby: to sleep and start to figure out our budget.:woot:

well, we finished putting all of our bills into a spreadsheet.:banghead:

Looks like hotdogs and bologna sandwiches for the next year.

Just Kidding. it's not that bad. we still have along way to go and alot of budgeting to do. Nice thing is it's fresh on our mind and were trying
to keep a positive attitude.

One thing Dave always says and I know from experience - once you put together a good budget, you feel like you got a raise.

Couple ideas for saving money to get out of debt

Cancel the cable TV there are better things to do with your time

Limit the house hold to one phone and one phone only either a land line in the home or only one cell phone no need to pay for caller ID also.

Cancel the mega fast internet service and get a basic plan. 10-12 bucks a month.

Fix your meals at home it’s healthy and will save you a ton of green. Take your lunch to work leftovers are like free food LOL

Don’t buy anything you don’t need from the market like chips and such also healthy and will save you green

You are so right on those points. Most of them have multiple benefits.

All of these are great ideas. Our cable, house phone(voip) and internet is all from the same company. Altogether we pay $110.00 a month. which is far better than what we were paying a different company.

We each have a cell phone through nextel. but with our work schedules sometimes thats the only way I get to talk to my wife in a day's time.

We try to cook at home when time allows. Again our work schedules play another role here. we also grill alot, which is kinda expensive when you
cook alot of ribeyes... I guess we need to cut back on some of that too. but your right, leftovers will save alot of money.

Some of the things we started to do awhile back was not purchase so many consumables. Things like paper cups, paper plates, etc... (unless we have company) that also saves alot of money. You have to figure the cost for the entire year and not just the week. so if you spend $5.00 a week on
paper cups, that equals $260.00 per year. And we figure if we can do this on some of the other things that we consume we can cut down on waste, while increasing our funds to put towards bills, etc.

Grocery shopping, too. Buy only when things are on sale and/or you have a coupon. I buy a lot of store brand items, unless there is a big taste preference or health benefit to a name brand. Things like rice, pasta, sauces, etc. I usually buy the store brand. I can keep my grocery bills down to under $200/month and I eat well and cook a lot. I rarely eat out because I enjoy cooking.

I've shot my food budget to hell this month. I'm in the process of redoing my kitcheing now and I haven't had a single meal in it for 2 -3 weeks now! :frown: WaWa and their meatball sandwich are my friend! :arms:
