DALES Bad Attitude CDI?

Has anyone ran one of these? I forgot to ship out my cdi to JSS today, and I know I am going to want to ride this weekend. I have a $50 gift cert to JSS that alex hooked me up with, so I plan on getting a CDI done to atleast have a spare. All the places that ship OEM part take way too long to get it in.

But in the mean time.....I was thinking of just buying a BRAND NEW Dales just to be sure I will have something to run on Saturday. Does anyone have experience with these? I think Betrezra ran one with good results. I am not going to run the jetinetics flywheel, and my 650 ignition is set stock to timing with the lines "lined up". Any info welcome. If I didnt ride salt 100% of the time, I would get a MSD TL.

Shawn, go to Atlantic Jet sports and you can get a WSM replacement, it should have the oem retard feature that the Dales lacks.

There were never many options for the k650's. The Dales work very well.
Just make sure you remove the positive cable from the battery before you do any electrical maintaince, so not to power spike the CDI.

Thanks guys! Crab, I was looking at the WSM ones today @ AJS. You think they will hold up? I have 6 CDIs at my house and all of them have either F'ed up plug wires, or the small wires are corroded, or the internal stop relay is stuck..... Its driving me nuts! I just want to get something NEW and fast. How off is the curve on the DBA CDI?

Just for reference its a K750 w/650 stator and lightened flywheel.

Thats the only thing I don't like, they have none. What ever you set the timing at is where it stays according to a conversation I had with Dale. As for the rev limiter, I actually use it to my advantage, I can leave the top of a wave with the throttle pinned and just wait until I hear it start to bounce at 7000 before I let off . Another thing I am doing now is mounting the unit so that the flat part is facing down, so far the TS coil has given me no trouble.

I had one on my 1991 Kawasaki 650 SX with a 750 SS in it. I was also running a Jetinetics 3rd gen wheel. Well I did buy it used but it came from a good source. I had way too many problems with that ski to ever know if it was jetting issues or ignition issues. I remember Don 79 TA having problems with his. Supposedly he sent it back to Dale's and the checked it, mailed it back saying it was ok and charged him some money, like $50! I ended up selling mine to DSlicker on eBay. I am not sure if he ever ran it, I think he resold it. I did have a pinched wires on it though. I have toyed with the idea of buying a brand new one too. Then again a new TL system is around $1500 and those Dale's boxes are $300. Since the TL Systems are programable and would fit a lot more engine combinations, I am leaning more towards a TL system when I build my X2 up in a year. Then again the agervation of TL is a whole another story...

If I have any trouble in the future, I'm definatly going with a new WSM, or another from a TS.

Dales

I ran a brand NEW Dales on my 780 X-2, jet flywheel....... and got 12 hours out of it before it turned my motor into a bomb.

Granted this was after my wife sunk the ski in the ocean...... dumped the seawater, it ran for another 1 hour..... then would intermittently start.

Got it home and it would not start long enough to fill up the motor and exhaust with unspent fuel....... THEN WHAMMMMM!!!! it would explode and blow up my rubber exhaust hose.

Instantly swapped out to a stock spare CDI and it's run great since....... something crazy was up with that dales.

I didn't notice any loss of performance with the stock CDI over dales.... infact I've gained RPM :).....

Go figure.

Save your money IMHO!

Spend it elsewhere.
