Other D - shaped hole in ride plate?

What is the purpose of the D-shaped hole you see in some ride plates?

Ok that's what I thought.. the Worx Dominator is really really long - for speed presumably - but it has a D hole in it so I thought that was sorta weird.

It's supposed to help keep the ski locked to the water in chop and/or while turning.

I have a different outlook on it. It lets the tail end of your ski sit lower in the water, just like shortening a hull. Rear of the hull lower in the water helps keep the nose up, making it easier to get out of the water off wakes and waves. That's why it is a freestyle mod.

He is not talking about a D cut plate. He is talking about a Worx Dominator style plate. It has a small cut out shaped like a D almost in the middle of the plate. It's only about 1/2 of a 4" circle. He's not taking about the giant half circle us freestyle guys cut at the end of the plate.

Sorry, I have to chime in as I actually know the answer.

The small D-cut has water flowing through it correct? Yes. The steering nozzle is just behind it correct? Yes.

Ok.

Lets say you are turning your jet ski and let off the throttle. What happens? You stop turning because no water is flowing through the nozzle because you didn't pull the trigger.

The purpose of the small d-cut is so that water can flow between the small space of the reduction nozzle and steering nozzle. So that when you let off the throttle you can still turn.

No more opinions. This is what its designed for.

The typical "D-cut" (hack a chunk out of your ride plate) is so that the nozzle is exposed and has less resistance. You can turn quicker but the rear end sits lower.
