D cut stock rideplate...where to cut?

I cut my ride plate last summer and made it just flush with the back of the ride plate so its straight across...no more extended area on the ride plate. I am wondering when you make the D cut, is it from the stock setup so that there are two "fins" sticking out past the end of the nozzle, or do you cut it flush, THEN cut the D in so that below the nozzle there is no ride plate?

any pics or help would be swizeeeet.

Search "D Cut"


More than anything, it will "loosen up" the back end, and bring up the nose. It's pretty much the standard for surf.

No good for racing.

im happy....turns nicer then the flush cut i had earlier.

I would not recomend it if you are over 240 as the nose stays up all the time and you cant get moving after a jump

I ended up cutting a large "D" that goes from the stock bend (where it starts to get flat across the bottom) and the top of the "D" is flush with the end of the nozzle. It really helps a lot making the ski more "squirrely" when riding freestyle/freeride but it still locks up real good in corners.

Cutting it was a pain though, I didn't have anything that would cut the metal other than a sawzall with a metal blade (went through like 3 blades on that ride plate) and then finished it off with a 4" disc grinder to smooth it out.
