Cylinder -> Piston & Ring Question

Hello,
I have just removed my cylinders and have noticed considerable wear on the walls. Currently it is stock 81mm and I am about to take it in to get re-honed. Would I need new pistons and rings? I know that OEM's next step rings are +.25 and +.50, would the oversized rings fit on the current piston or would i need to get the oversized piston?

I will be upgrading the engine at the end of the summer so I am trying to hold off on any expensive purchases that will be useless once the summer is over.
Thanks for all your help.

Hi Rob, The first thing you need to do is measure the bore & determine just what wear you do have? If it falls within the wear limit, go ahead & hone & replace the nessary parts. If it's out of spec, you will need to bore to the next size & replace pistons (basicly a new top end).
Find a good reputible shop in your area to preform the work.
Shipping to one of the shops that support the site here is also an option.

this can also be tricky to find...........if youve never done it before, at least get a pro to look at it....

I dissasemlbed a top end about 2 mo's ago......all looked good, rings etc etc...BUT, when I had my boy E look at it...he told me it was "out of round.."

so, just because it looks ok...doesnt always mean its so...

send it to Paul! He'll put a big ol' smile on your face.....

Hello,
Thanks for the quick replies peeps, I had the cylinders re-honed today. According to the measurements from the machine shop the cylinders are a 190th bigger then they previously were, this measurement was taken from the rear cylinder which is slightly (One One thousanth) bigger then the front.
I also spoke to Paul which confirmed that I can still use the standard rings as they meet the tolerances.

I eventually plan to send them out to have some major work done, but that wont be until the end of the summer :).

Thanks for all your help guys.
