Cutting the back of your ski off???

Why exactlly? flat water or surf? how does it handle after chopping 2" off? Does it only help for back flips? Its winter and time to cut something up!

Flat water only. Helps get the nose up for rolls, tricks in genral. You can forget about a back flip on flat to flat unless u drop some serious coin into a stroked bigbore, with a total loss setup. If u start chopping u can expect ur top speed handling to be lost. U can compinsate by making ur strakes 1-2mm sharper like a sxr by doing some glass work.By doing this u will get some control back from the -2,-3,-4 chop.

And based on that, what have you decided to do on your build Ben?

I love it in flat and surf.

Great handling improvement. Makes the ski respond much quicker to steering input.
Much more squirrely ride.

I have said this for years and now it is becoming a reality but we are 3 or 4 years behind.

If everyone is going for this super quick steering nimble ski then why are the aftermarket hull manufactures determined to build lightweight "good handling" skis off of the SXR mold. Why not build them off of the fx-1.

We just need a lightweight, 50 pound, shortened, FX-1 from every manufacture so we can pick which one we like

shorten hulls rawk IMO. you can run any length rideplate to dial it in for your weight but really you just need to spend some time on it to learn how to hook it up. i made my plate to be flush with my OEM steer nozzle for shallow tail landings but if you use an aftermarket trim such as blowsion or a longer steer nozzle like a 550 then you will have a rideplate that needs to stick out more to keep it protected. Or just not land in shallow water :)

Because even a lot of SJ owners don't like how twitchy the FX-1's are. I agree with you though...If you're going to drop $4k+ on a hull, I would think that you'd wanna go as extreme and twitchy as possible. Why spend that kind of money if you just want to jump wake and do the occasional nose stab???

I've got nothing against that kind of riding as I love it but then again, I've barely got about $2k in my ski.

for me its not a twichy ride, it just turns and reacts to rider input disgustingly fast compared to stock length. a fx-1 has a crappy pump, why bother with it.

so far with the skis I have tried.. I would rather have a full length ski.
Or an after market hull that might be shorter, but not chopped out of the back !

I have been lightening my fx-1 pound by pound, and thought about cutting 2 inches off. Right now i will stay with the stock lighter hull and add alot more power with the BB pump, pipe, and lightweight wheel. That should be good for my experence level for this coming year. Maybe when i get good i will do the cut. I would love a aftermarket fx-1 hull. Like the F1 on here.

What did/didnt you like about it? Did you ride it in surf/flat? how short were the boats you tried?

Its fine in the flat for Freestyle.
All the hulls I have tried that are shortened or angled in the back are way to nose twitchy for carving and surf riding.. at least from my perspective.

I would like to try a ski that is shortened in the middle like the FS1.

all the chopped in the back skis... are no good for surf in my opinion..

I have only tried a couple and was not a fan...

I am sure there might be a good combo somewhere.
