Not really, some flat water guys say it helps, but thats not what it was created for. The ride plate pushes the nose of the ski down, or helps keep the nose down. Originally for surf ridding, the plates are cut so the tail of the ski "sinks" when ridding the face of a wave. When ridding a wave face, you don't want the nose to catch and pearl.(Usually the ski goes straight down till you hit the bottom)

By relieving the pressure on the rear, it would seem to help when backflipping.

I believe Kenny said the idea came from a rider in Aulstralia whe had a "V" cut almost the entire length of his ride plate. I would like to try that. Anyone tried this?

On flat water.

it makes the nose ALOT easier to point straight up.

it was a very dramatic difference going from an extended race type plate to a cut stock plate on my squarenose.

I had the ski fall back over on top of me the first few times I jumped waves with the plate cut.

Yeah there was... I was running a jet dynamics ride plate until this season. Normally with the JD plate when I hit a small wave or wake I could get it to pop up but the nose wanted to plow through it much easier... now, with the cut plate, that same setup wave or wake, with little effort I can get the nose to pull right over... first time that happened I landed flat on my back... ski on top of me. Wasn't expecting that. It seams much more playfull and fun for sure. Not good for racing though.

Cut the stock X2 plate and it shreds like mad with full up trim. I can't wait to get to the ocean to give it a full on wave thrashing.
