I'm swapping cases - these seals were new last year.
Is this normal, or do they need to be replaced?
Also, do you all use any kind of sealer on the OD of the seals?

I would not grease the OD, the ID maybe but not the OD. If I had that much water between my seals (I have never seen that) I would ABSOLUTELY replace them with a different brand of seal.

I am convinced to use new seals, now you have me thinking about OEM. These were aftermarket from a reputable seller but it does seem like they should have worked better for one season.
Where do you all get yours?

Yeah, I just got off the phone with the parts guy at a Yamaha dealer in Bakersfield.
I said "I need a crank seal kit for a '95 Superjet".
He said "what's that"?
I said "It's a watercraft".
"Oh."
He looked them up for me but they don't have them in stock.
I'm wondering if the AM ones aren't exactly the same thing - there may have been other issues at play in my situation.

Go OEM foshrire. I was able to find some on eBay using the OEM part numbers and checking off titles and description in the search field. It saved me about $20 over anywhere else. Boats.net had the best prices otherwise from what I have seen.

I always used the WSM ones because the stock ones were like 3x more. I had both my superjet and my waveraider 1100 (both use the same crankseals) blow the back crankseal out. It is worth the extra money to go ahead and get the oem crank seals. Thanks all I run now and they always hold up good. I dont know what it is about the WSM ones but I have not had good luck with them or any WSM parts for that matter. OEM all the way.

i had problems with my rear seals comin out and finally took the advise to buy oems. installed them dry on the o.d. and never had a problem agian. not sayin a/m ones are bad, but theres somthing to be said about not having to tear down a motor mid summer to replace ANOTHER seal.

WSM makes two kinds of seals. Std and Premium. I have used the Premiums before and never had a problem. They told me not to even think of the Std ones!!!!!!!!!!

New seals. I have used Loctite 518 in the grooves to help seal them off also. Some people use nothing while others will use 1211

So what are you saying? Are you saying the first set you lubed the the OD? and the 2nd set you didnt?

Steve,
Are you saying they didnt fail but just made the white looking stuff? How did you install them and where did you put grease?

Just curious..

no i never lubed them, i had put sealant on them thinking it would help seal it (on the O.D.) the last time i put it together i used oems and didnt use any sealer. installed them dry. and they never came out agian. not sure if it was cuz they were oems, or weather or not they were installed dry. but it worked.
