I've heard that the 6m6 crank will work in 61x cases? Is this true? And if so is there any strength difference between an actual 61x and 6m6. Thanks ya'll

Hmm, that just wont due with the lower rev limit. I might just delve myself into the cdi and take out that resistor. What do ya'll think about not having a rev limiter? Bad or Good? Too likely to blow up the motor or spin a bearing? Any stories that ya'll have heard please tell. thanks

We ran Kawis without rev limiters for years just remember to let off the gas when the pump comes out of the water and all will be fine.

The 6m6 crank will fit the 61x cases but they are not in fact the same cranks. If you remove the drive coupler you will find the end of the 6m6 crank is hollow and the 61x crank is solid thus the 6m6 crank is lighter. Its quite common to use these cranks in 61x engines to give them a bit more snap. This only applies to genuine Yamaha cranks.

If you are going to go to the trouble of tearing into the CDI, why not just make it adjustable?? If no then just replace the existing resistor with a different fixed resistor thus making the rev limit about 7800 or 8000. That is plenty high and might save the engine if you ever have a stuck throttle or something. If you want I can mod it for you and make it adjustable if you would like. PM if interested.
