Super Jet Crank bearing question

One of my crank bearings is bad on my superjet and maybe more, but for sure one is. Is this something that people can easily change or do most people take it to a shop? Is it a good idea to replace the seals since the motor will be torn apart anyways? I tried looking around but couldn't find any how to's or tutorials so im guessing that most people take it to a shop.

Which bearing? The rear one is replaceable if you have a puller. The front one never fails. Yamaha chose to use a dbl. ball bearing at that location - back in 1990- so they would not suffer the Kawi crank failures. Any other "bad" bearings would require a new or rebuilt crank - and seals of course.

Thanks I'm pretty sure it's just the rear but I will have to tear into the motor to find out for sure. Is it as simple as pulling the old one off and putting the new one on?

Not too simple- or easy. The crank case halves have to be "split" , to remove the crank. Then you need a thingy called a bearing splitter and a puller- Available at Harbor Freight at a somewhat affordable price. - If you're not mechanically inclined or have no previous experience with something similar- I wouldn't try it. Your crank is 11 years old. If the ski has been used a lot, it might just need replacing.

Yes i think there $200 ish with a core. Same crank we use in our motors. Pm @JetManiac for exact pricing. He keeps a bunch in stock.

Just pulled a crank today where the plastic cage failed on the front double bearing. Now all the balls are at the bottom of the bearing. Guessing there's no way to pull that bearing myself?

You can change the frnt. bearing just like the rear. Unfortunately it's half the price of a SBT rebuilt mentioned in post 7.
