Cracked cylinder - can I get this welded??

I broke off another 10mm cylinder stud on my cases and went to switch my cylinder on to my backup cases and noticed this crack. I was thinking about getting it welded to just last me until the end of the season or atleast for one or two more days of riding (last days of scheduled filming).

Bad idea? I ordered a girdle kit which I am hoping will help too.

My buddy cracked 3 kawi cylinders in a row in this same spot.

Finally welded and reinforced all around the base of the jug.

Seemed to do the trick.

do I need to worry about the cylinder getting warped from the welding??

It should be "flat sanded", but with the sleeves sticking out that isn't possible.

The main thing is you need to make sure the cylinder doesn't "rock" on the cases(with no gasket).

Something isn't flat or is binding which is why it may have cracked in the first place.

Maybe drill the bolt holes slightly bigger.

Just do a little investigating before you put it together.

If you use the ADA style girdle (long studs) it will take the load off that part of the cylinder. It will weld fine but its a good idea to clamp it on a flay surface to stop it distorting with the heat but this means either dropping the sleeves out or making a tool so that you can clamp it with the sleeves in.

I have a upper case that is shot off an old 750 thats still flat on the gasket area, I'll bring that to the welder.

I ordered the ADA girdle kit and it should be here friday. Just waiting on my rods for the crank and then I'll get that rebuilt and I'll be ready to go!
