Do not download those "free" cleaners. They are free because they load your computer with their own garbage. "We promise to remove all spyware that isn't ours". Nice...

Your registry shouldn't need to be cleaned. You know all these new vista features that pop up "are you SURE you want this program to continure?" They are designed to keep things OUT of your registry. Don't go looking for something to tamper with it. Free anti-virus, pop-up blockers and anti-spiware install both the program you want and other crap you don't. If you need a program like that, suck it up and go buy the Nortan or Macfee lines.

also might want to use a free program called Clean IT!.......it removes temp files and temporary internet files.....automatically. If you want to do it manually, go to the temporary internet files folder and delete everything inside.

That's a joke! Don't download things like this. To delete your temporary internet files... Open internet explorer, hit alt and move to the "tools" drop down menu, select interenet options and use the clearly labeled buttons that delete your temp files, cookies and history.

Now, I don't have the solution to your problem here, but, I do know that nothing is free, and every single "free" program that has been reccomended to me has installed some background applications unrelated to the task it promised. Download too many of these "free" programs, and your computer will have so much bull ******** running behind the sceens that it wont have any free time left to do what you asked.

Oh, btw, when it does come to free, there are some free online virus scanners out there that are pretty good. What's the catch? They find the virus, and then pitch a sale that they can remove it if you purchase their program. These are a good way to find out if your anti-virus programs just aren't cutting it, and it's also a good example of how free isn't really free (it's actually a marketing stragity, we helped you so now you trust us and will buy our product).

I keep getting a warning popup that says files are corrupt etc. and I need to go to www.registerycleanerxp.com to fix. Anyone know how to get rid of this it is driving me nuts.

You probably have a virus. That's not a microsoft link. Some viruses don't steal from you, they just 'guide' you to a place they want you to spend money. You can make big money by developing a sickness and selling the cure. You need to check that your antivirus software is up to date. If your not sure, check for one of the free web based anti-virus scanners. There are web based programs that do not need to be installed to scan your computer. They do not install anything. They just scan the computer and tell you if you have a virus, then they try to sell you their product to remove the program. You're not required to purchase the software, so it's a good diagnosis tool. If it comes up empty handed, you saved some money on buying something you didn't need.

There's online anti-spy/adware like this too. Again, it's not free. You are subject to their sales pitches while using the scanners, and it wont actually remove the malware. They do work well for diagnosis.

EDIT:

I was looking for something for you to try and I came across this at macfee...

McAfee Security provides you with a powerful set of virus removal tools, designed to automatically detect and remove viruses that infected your system. These applications are also valuable because of their size, making them easily downloadable even with a slow Internet connection. If you suspect your system to be infected with one of the following viruses, these invaluable FREE tools will allow you to repair any damages to your computer.

Get up-to-date protection today. McAfee VirusScan Plus is the easiest, most convenient way to protect your PC from computer viruses like Nimda, SirCam, Bugbear and others.

As you can see, they offer some free virus removal tools, but there offer is very limited, and the real goal if for you to purchase macfee products. This is the purpose of all free programs. Some advertise, some dominate the spyware on your computer.

I refuse to own Norton. I had them for a while and the subscription ran out so I DL'ed AVG and have been fine since, minus this little episode.
