its is a spcer for AM hulls. they usually dont have the recessed ring area like and OEM hull where the midshaft sits which causes the midhaft to wear a circle into the hull. not good on the glass, carbon, or kevlar. the spacer solves that problem.

So,should anyone with an AM hull use one?

I put one into my Matrix about 9 months in. I pulled my midshaft to find a nice circle worn into my bulkhead. It could be one of those things that is self clearancing but I would rather be safe than sorry.

I've run one in my Rok hull since day one. No recess in the firewall, all still looked good last time it was apart.

yes unless you have a Cold-Fusion Midshaft housing

Only those a/m hulls that need it. The SF has the recess in the firewall that the OEM hull has.

Now, older ones dont

these are designed to be used if you are using a stock midshaft housing
if you are running a Cold-Fusion midshaft housing it has the relief built in so it is not needed

No bro, the ROK is recessed, as are most aftermarket hulls now. I bought one for my ROK before it came in only to realize WDK had already addressed the issue. We used it on the first Ricket we had but I beleive the XFS's had addressed it as well. The Rickters didnt used to be and my Rev wasnt, I believe the Superfreak is now as well. But these were a great part for the hulls that were not recessed as bolting the intermediate straight to the hull caused quick wear and easy water entry.

Sounds like a great reason to pull my motor this weekend. Maybe an excuse to buy myself some Xmas goodies.

There was no recess in your firewall on your ROK?????
Unless I'm missing something, then no.. My firewall was flat, but it does have slightly larger diameter hole that a stocker. However the part that would have ridden in the recess on the stock firewall sat flat on the Rok firewall. It's all coming back apart soon so I'll verify after Daytona. I've been wrong before. Many times.

Thanks for the letting me know that Brian!

What l wonder is how far the midshaft could actually wear into a firewall.IMO all that would happen is that it would only dig down so far and then stop when the pressure was gone.Depending on how thick the firewall is would be the question of whether or not it would leak or would cause a problem.

Or the damage it does to your driveshaft and midshaft due to the fact that they are bound up and not able to move

That's what i was thinking. I was watching the play in my midshaft bearing as an indicator too. It was only 9 months old and only slightly loose. Meanwhile it had worn about a 1/32" groove into the firewall.
