Thanks for all the feedback guys, looks like I'll be getting hold of an SXR coil, seems it's the best way to go.

These comments have made me think, maybe it's worth starting a thread with all the direct swap Oem parts that are a cheeper way out for the same thing, might help people save a few bucks for those important aftermarket parts

I have a local guy who runs a ski / cycle repair business. He uses the good 20 strand wire and has rebuilt several coils for our local riding group. I have one of them and it works like a champ and as far as I know everyone else has had no problems..

I made a tool to get the old wire out it takes about 3 minutes. I have also searched for 20 strands 0 resistance wire and found it locally at a speed shop.

What kind of tool is that?

I will have to take a pic of it. It is a piece of tubing about 3” long that I had our machine shop make a hole saw out of, they formed teeth on one end and put a tee handle on the other. I place it on the cut off plug wire then turn and push till It hits the bottom of the hole when I pull it out, it pulls out a plug of plug wire not hurting the pin post inside the coil.

Very nice.

I use my Dremel with a 1/16" bit and go down/around the wire. A little sketchy, but it works.
