Coil, Msd vs Oem?

I'm looking to get a new coil and I was just wondering if there is any real benifit in and Msd over the Oem, anyone know?

Neither, get a Kawi coil, it's the same but less $$.

Yup, get an OEM SXR coil, they're about $60 and the same part as Yamaha.

You will need plug terminals and boots.

KV? like kilovolts or something? I'm not familiar. I assume this is a bad thing?

Btw, there are more parts like that...cheaper than OEM Yamaha, but still OEM, and in some cases, LOTS better.

Get the OEM or Kawi coil like everbody has suggested. The MSD gives a lot of marketing BS to make you think it is a better coil. The MSD coil plug wires are not removeable / replaceable, so once they fail you have a paperweight. The stock coil gives the same or better performance and the wires are replaceable for a fraction of the cost of a new unit.. Save your $$$ and get the OEM or Kawi setup..

The MSD TL coils are fine. (at least the single towers...not sure about dual)

Yep, I was referring to the MSD OEM replacement coils only. The TL stuff is ok from what I have heard.

yep i have been running my rebuilt by me kawi coil for 2 yrs now with no trouble

It really isn't a Kawi or Yamaha coil. It's a Mitsubishi coil, and it's the same identical coil for both Kawi and Yamaha.

I'm with Wax on this one they are a piece of poo, I have even seen faulty brand new ones.

I think Paul was saying the 760 coils are beefed up from the factory.

i think jss sells new oem yamaha coils for 76.00 and then get him to put the good wires on them. very nice.
