FX-1 Chop my AC or...

Hey everyone, this could go anywhere but since it relates to a FX1 i'm building I figured i'd discuss it with you.

I'm purchasing superjetbrett's FX1000 hull. The handle pole bracket it moved forward, but he was still running a pole much shorter than stock. I have a stock length AC pole that is beat to poop. Its straight, but thats about it. The aluminum skin is really bad.

I was thinking of shortening it, which seems like a major undertaking, or possibly building my own handle pole.

I can't tig but have a buddy who can.
If I shorten the AC unit it'll still look beat up. The up side is i won't have to mess with anything else.

If I make one i'll have to figure out the cable mounts and pole bushings where it attaches to the mount. So... this is my delimma.

What do ya'll think?

Well if you have a buddy that can tig, I would do it... only being that the ac pole is polished, you can always bring that back to shine or paint with a little work. Unless you're good at fabricating something strong and lightweight then go at it. But dealing with cables can be a headache making you wish you left it alone.

I got a ac pole that I had 4" wacked off. You have to cut it at the lower base and cut a window out of the bottom side so you can weld the tubes up inside also. I would also add some reinforcment or something where the steering cable mounts. That's a real weak skot and it will blow out if your steering isn't adjusted perfect

Yeah, this is one of the things i'm worried about.
I've been offered a -3 SJ pole wrapped in CF for a very reasonable price. I'll probably buy that and use it, and debate on either modifying my beat up AC pole or just selling it.

if you use the sj pole remember that the pre 08 poles use a different steering cable then the fx1 so you might want to check that out.

Yes, 08 and up poles are FX1 poles

Damnit! Its a regular SJ pole... If I use it, can I run a SJ cable and be alright?

I do have a 'brand new' never installed AC -3" pole I can sell you, I'll pm you the cost.

Looks like i'm gonna chop my AC pole, but i found a 08+ pole to run on my ski while i do my modifications.
