Chinpad mounting options for AC Handlepole

Location

Hi all,
I was trying to take the chinpad off my AC handlepole and both screws broke off leaving a lot of screw inside those aluminum mount blocks.
I attempted to drill them out but it is not very easy. These screws had not been removed in several years. I believe they are SS.

Is there another option? Surely I am not the first to struggle with this specific issue.

Thx!

Thanks for that response Big Kahuna.
I should have mentioned that I have been trying that but my drill keeps walking off the SS and chewing into the aluminum block.
I'm sure the screw is now work hardened so drilling is very difficult.

The cobalt drill is probably worth a try. I may have to dremel out a new pilot divot in the center of the screw somehow to get the bit centered again.

Thanks for the tips - I will keep drilling and keep thinking...
I saw somewhere that somebody replaced the stock steering stop with a spacer. This spacer spans from the top of the handlepole surface to the bottom of the inside of the chinpad. Then there was a hole drilled thru the pad and it is bolted down to the new spacer.
Does that ring any bells?
I'm planning my 'punt' if this drilling continues to be so problematic.

That is on an XMetal, Thrust, Blowsion or RRP Pole. You could rig something like this for the AC, but they did not come like this.

It requires a welder. Tig weld a bolt to the broken piece and turn it out with a wrench. The heat will usually vaporize the corrosion that has it stuck. Inverter welders are almost a cheap as a good set of drill bits these days.
