Well, I guess I got the first one out of the way quick, I havent even made it to the water yet, this one happened in the driveway on the first test run off the garden hose. Check out how far the bolt backed out. I guess the bolt wasnt torqued right. Such is the way with used toys right? Can you guys think of any other reason it would have backed out like this, should I pull the flywheel off and check it out? By the way, does anyone have one? I havent even looked yet to see how much a replacement is.

Don't know what the deal is with this problem.

For over 2 years, I've been using nothing or grease, and 55-70ftlbs torque. Never a problem.

Thats because you take your ski's apart twice a week.

My guess is it was never tightened at all.

LOL...sorry Willy, I work on more than just my own, and the same applies.

I have never had a flywheel bolt back out, be it on a stock 650 that stayed together for over a year, or heavily modified bigger motors with either stock or aftermarket flywheels, that stayed together for anywhere from 2 weeks to a year.

So bite me. :fingersx:

BY the way, that broken cover is not junk just yet....it could make an excellent bendix holding tool for checking timing and such.

ouch! any damage to the flywheel? is that a jetinetics? if it is, those things are pricey!

Yeah it is a jetinetics and you are probably right crumb, it was probably never tightened at all. I had no way to know cause I bought it, never rode it before I tore the ski apart and rebuilt it, everything but the motor that is. I never touched it. The guy I bought it from said it was running strong the day he parked it.

Good call!

I never put anything on the bolt either and I've had to R&R plenty of times. I think it helps to keep those threads from building up with gunk for something you remove fairly often...same with the head bolts.

Grease on the threads also helps with even & smooth torquing...better torque values are thus obtained.

YES, I couldnt agree with you more. My dad has pounded that into my head my whole life. Supposed to lube the threads and under the head of a bolt for most torque specs. Seems as though I even remember some manuals give an unlubricated and lubricated torque value.
