Anybody try one of these for a stand? It says 500# capacity..and much cheaper than a normal scissor stand but not sure if it would hold, maybe if you added a couple strap supports like the aluminum ones...

If you had nylon straps on the top and at the bottom ( to keep the rails and legs from over spreading) then the only potential weak spot would be the hing bolts, they could be replaced with grade 8 hardware easily enough, then the tube itself becomes the weak point.

Im sure it would hold, im NOT sure it would hold up to repeated forward and back rocking motion as sliding a ski on and off.

maybe though.

Just as a garage stand...maybe Ill get one and just use it for empty hulls, like doing reinforcing and painting and what not. Then I can try it out on a complete ski (somebody elses of course)

We just got done making ours last weekend. $50. We used 4x4 and one maybe 2x4. Its fully disassemble and has a tray underneath and has wheels. I try to get better pics later.

I slapped this one together out of scrap lumber, scrap carpet and decking screws.
I have like $10 in the casters from Lowes hardware.
Not pretty, but it works. Oh and it hold me plus the ski easily

I snagged a sweet heavy duty cart at work, the ones like at home depot and lows, with the big huge castor wheels and an approximate 4x6 foot surface. Except its not crappy plastic, its a huge slab of really nice mahogany. I'm gonna put some braces on it and use it as a garage dolly.

I also snagged some ball bearing castor wheels from work, about 3-4 inch diameter ones, very heavy duty, was used for a 300 pound particle board construction display. Might build another cart with those.

thats a great stand!

BUT, unless you had that scrap lumber hanging around. it would cost way more than $10.

and IF you had the scrap lumber hanging around, you probably wouldnt be on the internet looking for cheap stand ideas.

one of those exact stands came with a ski I am working on for someone.
I thought it would not hold the ski and be a POS but it has been fine, you can kind of see it in this pic.

Just a FWIW harbor freight must skimp on somethign becasue I have been making those things for years to hold windshields at work (a glass installer) and they cost $18 each to make yourself if you have a pipe bender and the bolts. I make them out of 3/4 rigid pipe and they will hold a ton of weight but something sounds cheap with that one.

I bet it would hold, but I would expect any forward or backward movement would cause the little legs to bend and the ski to end up on the ground..

But its a better/cheaper idea than the whole PVC stands.... in my eyes anyhow... PVC isn't ment to hold up for stands either....

But it beats $199 thats for damn sure....

Yamanube, you get one first! Let me know.. I'm not ready to be the testrat
