Cheap power

Hey folks this is too good not to share, and I haven’t read much on it so her we are.

Backstory: had a red pipe, ran awesome. Came loose/ blew gaskets 3 times in 8hrs. Went back to stock pipe + the list below got me very impressed in a hobby where more power is never enough.

Current setup:

- Ported (yamanube templates)
- Exhaust sleeve for stock exhaust. Not sure how much of a difference this makes but I had it so I put it in.
- Back flush fitting on stock pipe to pisser (has a smaller hole (3/16ish?) to dump less water, better for reliability imo, while maintaining visual ref of the pisser)
-h.s.i. Thin head gasket

Jetting: Single 44 Mikuni, 120/145, 95g spring, 1.5t out low, 1-5/8 out high. Impeller/ electrical stock. Pic of plugs below.

This setup has 75% of the power of what I had with the red pipe. I didn’t think it was possible with the stock exhaust that has an extremely uneventful-non-existent powerband.

It is somewhat snappy with a legitimate powerband that gives that “on the pipe” pull right around 1/3 throttle.

I think most people going through the hassle of porting probably want or have a pipe already, but if not. I would recommend the ported/ stock pipe combo and see how you like it.

So there you go, ~$150 and a few hours with your Dremel gets you some brap plus the satisfaction of having more than just bolt on power.

All of those aftermarket pipes are like that , blue loctite minimum , I have used red before on some , if you ever let the bolts get loose they enlarge the bolt holes like a round file , until the bolt holes are fixed it will never stay put, exact same thing on 720 Seadoos , I used to have those welded back up and redrilled back to 8mm , the Protec pipe I am running on my Wavejammer was the same way welded it up and redrilled it , but I have seen this same thing happen on APE 720 Seadoo pipes , Riva Red pipes and on Protec pipes before .

Any exhaust that is heavier than an FP head pipe needs sheet metal gaskets. Even Factory pipes occasionally crush fiber gaskets and come loose.
