Cheap FS hulls - "SJ type" - what are my options?

Hi all,

I've been riding a 550 for a few seasons now. I put a lot of work and money into my ski (and like it very much), BUT...this still will be a ski with a 112mm pump, not 144mm like Ymahas....and I feel that this is the biggest obstacle in getting the ski in the air, throttle response (or feeling of it) will not be as brisk as in the 144mm pump...so...I decided I am going to convert. To a Yamaha...well..meybe not completely a yamaha because I still thing a RN SJ hull has a lot room for improvement....

Now I am thinking cheap lightweight hull, 701 engine with something like GroupK's 845cc kit (keep it as simple for everyday riding pleasure) and "stock" pump with trim...

I need from the guys over in the US some technical support and personal feeling description about some of the hulls on the market. I am 1 of maybe 3-4 other begginer freestylers in Poland (yes, the entire population is 40 million) and need a stron boat. I am average size 180 cm and 90 Kg's.

Please keep in mind that budget is one of the key factors, as no sponsor even knows what jestskis (or freestyle) are in here...

Hope to hear some useful imputs....I bet other people could have similar dilemmas...

Thank you

Andrew

So are you looking for an aftermarket hull then, something based on the SJ platform?
What improvements are you looking for?

I am looking at a light hull, with modded 701 inside. Mostly flat water riding, and wake jumps. Something easy to handle and something that likes to jump out of the water...

Most any aftermarket hull you get is 100% or very nearly a Superjet copy (other than weight)

If you want more than that, you don't have many options.
What is your budget?

watercraft factory or wamiltons are fair priced for aftermarket sj's for around $4000 us just hull plus options . Or you could just build one out of a stock sj pm for more ?'s be glad to help

Thnak you for your imput. I suspect that I will have about up to 7 to 8K to build somethin (including shipping to Poland, which is not cheap). I definitely want to go fo light hull, cuz it's like adding power to a standard ski, but till retaining a stock or semi stock engine, which can always be improved. The hull could have a scupper valve, and trim install possibility.

Engine- not sure about 66E, seems kind of big and heavy for a newbie. Something 701 based should be cool. I am not sure about pump, but I know rev takes 155mm pump from yamaha as well as the 144mm pump...

opinions??

ThankS!!

well the price i think will will hard to do . you can buy a stcok ski in the us new for 7k . so to get a light hull and mostly stock parts i dont think is possible unless you go used . there are alot of good used boats out there so his may be your best bet as far as pricing and is probably all you need at ths point for the next few years . pump you dont need a 155mm in anything related to standups in my opinion 146mmm is probably the biggest i would go on larger engine packages .

Why not just get a fx-1 and do the bonzi bob conversion?
Almost same damn hull your running, lightweight, get a 144 and have even more power with the 701. For less then 2500

I was thinking about FX-1. I like narrow trays (I ride a 550), but I need something that will keep me busy for a few years. I think something "SJ based" will be the optimum choice. At the end, I think I'll go for a complete used ski.

I must wait about 2 months though to get the funds....
