so the wear ring gets 'bored out' faster then the prop gets smaller? I guess that would make since sience the prop would drag stuff againsed the wear ring

I would check the blades on the prop very closely, one bent blade on the trailing egde and it will cavitate very badly , also most skis will only cavitate till they are up on plane, even skis Seadoos with all the rubber coating missing off of the wear ring.
 
The XL's, XLT's, GPR's,.. really benifit with a new wear ring, correct prop (where the outer diameter wasn't ground smaller by the original wear ring), pump plug kit, and by sealing everything back up correctly with a good 100% silicone sealer or 4200 3M.

Makes a night and day difference. My XL1200 has zero slip (cavatation) now.
